1575. Also adults can acquire a language

Adults can also acquire a foreign language, and not merely learn it.

A friend of mine, also an English teacher, has acquired English when an adult.

To be honest I don’t know how much there is of acquisition and how much of learning. The point is that he can speak in English fluently with Chris, a common friend of ours, from Wisconsin.

Adults, if trained, can acquire or learn a foreign language: they have learning strategies children don’t have, like planning their learning and revising that foreign language. Their learning is more reflexive than the one a child can have, and henceforth they can learn and acquire more quickly than a young child. / Photo from: takeariskmakeamistakelearnsomething englishexams wordpress com
