2728. Are We Close to Our Students?



A teacher should not be an ice model whom students can admire but not imitate. 

A teacher should set examples of a thorough conducting and personality, so he ought to be an upright person. 

He should be close to his students, next to their issues and problems and joys. He should talk often with his students. 

Now I remember a female teacher, a girl, who was so close to her students that some girls used to approach her classroom desk to just chatter with her and tell her about their daily stuff and problems, doubts, hesitations, perplexities, troubles… between classes. / Photo from: Cute-little-girl-in-rain-with-umbrella1 hdwallpapersrocks com. One day teacher of English B said to teacher of English A, “In my opinion, definitely it’s a great and essential idea today here in Spain and in other countries (I guess), more and more, subjects different from English should be taught and learned in English. For example it’s becoming more and more frequent today that in Spain students attend classes of History, and Science, with textbooks in English, or by means of portfolios or dossiers made from here and there – complementary topics to one another. This may mean like a change of mind: English is not only a practical subject to actually learn English, but a vehicular language for other subjects. 3707. For Learning a Language - Reading Is like Half the Pathway Trodden

  A lot of us people want to learn a language – I teach English and keep learning it! – and we have to practice all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  For me and many of us listening may be the most difficult skill to acquire, but with practice you do improve a lot, believe me.  Anyway, today I would like to tell you especially about reading. Reading books, articles, websites. And also believe me, it’s a great skill to practice.  Stephen Krashen stated that by reading books you can learn a great deal of a second or foreign language, and I can assure you it’s thus. I have no big problems to read any text in English: fiction, non-fiction … except Joseph Conrad’s books perhaps, for they show to be extremely difficult for me to understand – even I had an Irish friend, Connor by name, who told me also that for him it was tough to understand, and he said that he read like one page per day, of his books. One day English teacher A said to English teacher B, “Management of the class and discipline is something the student has got to acquire by himself. The best discipline in the classroom is one's self-discipline, and is learned and acquired by students.  One way is to be grateful, to show gratitude.  If you, teacher, thank your students for a well-done small job for example, this action serves to keep more discipline.  Some students can be rude, right, but I guess that if you thank one of them in a repeated way, day after day, he will behave a bit better. If you teacher are polite and serious and a bit conspicuous, plus you don’t lose your temper, the class will develop better and better.  Teens feel insecure and they’re growing their personality, so if you treat them in a polite way, they will grow up fine. A goal. An ultimate goal we need for our lives.  Have you ever thought about that? I assume you have, for all of us ask ourselves about the goal of our life at sometime.  What’s my mission here? What are my goals? Do I have an ultimate goal? Or otherwise do I live at day, on just today?  A sensible person ought to have a final goal, oughtn’t to? Our students and their families should have an ultimate goal alike.  Some people carry out their labor fine and the remaining of a regular day as well, and offer all that to our Father God.
