3684. What Kind of Teacher Are You, eh?

 Are you a committed teacher? If so, you may understand what I’m saying today. 

Look, I think a good teacher must plan his or her lessons, so that these ones may be of good use to their students. 

What about thinking of a few goals when sitting to plan next lesson? Just a few of them, with our dear students in mind. Aims or goals are pretty important, if we wish to be right at lesson planning. And you may think of those few objectives, ones that do not block that lesson planning. All the contrary, they will help you find what your students do need now. 

What I mean is: I would tell you to think just what they need or what you think is most important now, these days. At other times you will think of other goals with more ample lenses. 

I also mean, if your students do see that you have planned your lessons, and you try to follow those plans – well, you may change something on the spot, let’s be realistic if something goes wrong – well, then, more likely the students, your students, would respect you more, plus see that you pursue their good: you give yourself to them in class. 

Each lesson means – has to mean – one step forward, for you pursue they would advance and learn more. 

I’ve observed something lately that I hadn’t before, in some way. I teach English to adults. Well, when there’re newcomers, students that incorporate to the class of students, and they try and catch up, well, these latter ones comment that their veteran classmates have a lot of fluency and are able to interact in class with me their teacher and among themselves. 

You may not observe their progress, but after you’ve struggled to teach each and each class, over and over again, your students may be changing into better. 

As well the teacher’s main concern ought to be him or herself, or the first concern. For that reason he or she ought to dedicate some time to their personal growth as a person, and ought to study and read good books, both on their profession and on the subject they teach, plus on other issues. 

I know you may be hectic, but just think of that. 

About those aims I mentioned above: try and find them as if by intuition, with affection, some wisdom, and lots of knowledge gained over the time. Studying will help you out. 

So as to end: in that way you will like your job more and more; however, do not forget to dedicate yourself to your family and relax. And thank God, for all good comes from him. Have a nice day.

3206. How to Be Great at Exams

  We second or foreign language teachers should test our students’ communicative competence. I would advise you to test speaking along lessons, while the other three language skills (listening, reading and writing) can be assessed and tested at regular written tests. However we should test these three latter skills also along the school year lessons and not only at written tests. What I propose is a continuous testing and assessing, and not only confined to written tests at each “evaluation” or term – I also would propose five (or four) “evaluations” plus the final testing. Only three “evaluations” seem little to me. The communicative competence should be tested more often. 3687. The Teacher Is Essential in Class

  I teach English to adults, as you know. And I would like to consider each lesson as a study session with my dear students. It’s an occasion for us to learn English. To learn new words, phrases, some syntax. Plus an occasion to have nice discussions about the topics from the textbook and from life itself.  If I consider that lesson as a study session, I will not get a bit nervous for acting in public, because on the other hand I like studying and learning English.  Even more, in that way I can have sort of a contemplative attitude in class, and that will positively influence on my students and my students’ learning and acquiring that target language.
