I won’t ever insist enough that in English classes the language spoken has to be English. By the teacher and by the students. 

If these latter ones can’t speak fluently, we as teachers have got to teach them little by little, advancing one step every single day. 

All this is called immersion. 

By means of which even the conducting of the class should be in English. 

The teacher has to make a compromise with himself to conduct the class in English, and come back to English when he realizes he has spoken in Spanish, their mother tongue. / Photo from: Olympic-Games-2012-Swimming www theguardian com
