3703. To Set High Standards in Class You Meant? How Can I Do That?
I’m an English language teacher, as you well know. And you may be another language teacher. Even you may be learning English, like I am doing myself. Well, let’s suppose that that teacher ought to do his or her best for their dear students to learn that dear language.
That teacher ought to think how my students can learn best. And each lesson is – must be – a step forward as far as my students are learning English. How are they progressing, since I began to teach them? Do they already master English?
You know, you may rightfully tell me that it also depends – and much! – on them, and you are fully right – it’s them who have to learn, yet I can wonder how I can facilitate that process, that inner process, for each lesson needs to be a step forward.
What can I do for they really would learn English? You know, part of this job is transmitting and passing on the lure and the inner desire to learn English – the more enthusiasm you invest on the task, the more they will learn, despite they may show discipline problems – I count on that.
In order to achieve and attain all this we teachers – and I know you may be hectic and a busy teacher – have to take care of lesson planning.
Something I do and it may help you or you already do it yourself, is when starting to plan next class, we may think of that specific class-group I’ve got to face: What are their needs currently? Then I may think of few goals for that class-group, plus several other details – few! – I’ve got to take into account with regard to that class or group. I do it that way myself and it really helps and works!
A moment arrives when you love your students, with benevolence love, that is, seeking their good, what’s good for them, and perhaps they may be grateful to you, or otherwise not quite much, never mind.
So as to finish. You as a teacher should set high standards, put the bar high. I mean, how should I explain? That teacher we’re talking about should give advice on learning English and tell why so, and even if setting high standards, life itself will surely lower the bar – you can put the bar high, but your students may get not one hundred per cent of your advice on learning English, you understand what I mean? If the teacher himself is learning English, he can share his own pathway to mastering that language. That’s it all. Have a nice day.
