1912. A sane pride of exerting oneself at work



Today I offer a piece of a longer text written by Spanish poet Juan Ramón Jiménez, who was the author of unforgettable Platero y yo. The text is about work and soon I hope to give it a translation into English. 

“La vida y el trabajo no pueden tener otro ritmo que el suyo, no pueden ser hostigados ni desviados de su órbita […] trabajar a gusto es armonía física y moral, es poesía libre, es paz ambiente. Fusión, armonía, unidad, poesía: resumen de la paz. La vida debe ser común y lo común altificado por el trabajo poético. 3714. How to Teach Adults, and Teens, and Enjoying the Lessons

  I teach adults. English to adults. And they may be great, so great, and demanding.  I’ve also taught kids, and I’ve written a lot on classroom management. With adults the thing seems to be different, evidently. And if you teach this public, I’d like to point out something that also may help you if you teach teens for example.  I guess deference is a term that suits here, both adults and kids. When you get into the classroom, alongside when you encounter adults at the school halls and corridors, you must refill up your tank with a big amount of patience.  Yes, but all is smoothened if you love your students, if you become able to actually listen to them, with honest affection and attention.  I would tell you too: Don’t argue with them at all, don’t quarrel with them: all may be suited and solved in a nice and patient way. Just i liked the photograph, an interesting one if you have a peek at it. 1490. Positive motivation

Studying and working are demanding for a kid.  So we can encourage him or her by letting them know that you parents are glad because he or she has invested a nice effort.  In this way he or she will be animated and even that student, after some of these times will like to learn and study new things, delightfully.  That student will begin to speak in English more often than not.  I have seen it in real life: a positive motivation boosts working a great deal.  More than the grade or mark he could have gotten, it is important to value their effort. / Photo from: student reading. www sccollege edu

3713. Do You Love Your Students from the First Class Day?

  For those of you who are in the northern hemisphere I wish you teachers all a nice back to school.  Today I’d like to say something about classroom management. I do know how some teachers have to struggle to keep a working pace at high school, at the classroom. I’m typing something that might perhaps help you out, if Granada now earthquakes let me write – I mean, we are okay, just we’ve have ten days of some small earthquakes, a few bigger ones. My mind goes to Venezuela, Colombia, Perú and Indonesia and their people, and I keep praying for you all.  Well, I guess in class the main point is the teacher achieve to keep his or her students working, studying, learning.
