1280. Listening before speaking

Teacher B said to teacher A, “In order that your students speak in English, first they have got to listen massively to you, teacher.

This has to do with what Krashen called ‘silent period’.

Can adults acquire English? Or they have to confine themselves to learning?

Adults CAN acquire English or any other modern language, according to for example H. D. Brown.

Nevertheless and as I said they must listen a lot of English from you or from CDs or DVDs. As well, adults, or adolescents, or children need to feel and notice the texture of the English language.

Summing up: first a lot of listening to you, afterward they’ll be able to speak, with your aid. Try all this you yourself.” / Photo from: www bridgeenglish com
