Remember that whatever you teach, while teaching, you're educating your students.

So can I educate if I teach math? Sure. Think: order, arriving on time, neat work and neat handwriting, respecting even helping their classmates, politeness, discipline, fortitude, generosity, arousing possible talents as writers, engineers, artists... Whatever we teachers do in the classroom either educates our students or some way hurts them.

The best thing you can do, and the most beautiful as well, is doing your work well and loving it. This should be combined with love of benevolence toward them all, though sometimes you may get burned out with a few of them who're acting up. One day teacher of English B said to teacher of English A, “In my opinion, definitely it’s a great and essential idea today here in Spain and in other countries (I guess), more and more, subjects different from English should be taught and learned in English. For example it’s becoming more and more frequent today that in Spain students attend classes of History, and Science, with textbooks in English, or by means of portfolios or dossiers made from here and there – complementary topics to one another. This may mean like a change of mind: English is not only a practical subject to actually learn English, but a vehicular language for other subjects. Take into account what typed on the previous post if you like. I'd also tell you to look in your audience faces and eyes. As well when addressing your students in class, eye-contact is good for their self-esteem and for a good management of the class.

2119. A student council is cool!

We teachers must follow and track our students. Nevertheless we cannot reach too far: we have many a student and plenty of work to fulfill.  In the school where I taught in the south of Spain, in a different city, we had a council of students, elected by their classmates at the beginning of the academic year.  There was the representative of the class-group, plus two speakers.  I used to meet up with them from time to time.
