915. Advancing in a relaxed atmosphere



One day teacher of English B said to teacher of English A, “Do you stay with your students after the class? Or arrive a few minutes before in order to stay with them?

This is a suggestion merely – I know you’re busy and hectic and have got to go to another classroom quickly. However, if it’s possible you might stay with them. Why? Because you see them and know them and learn the way they are in a more relaxed way, in another context; you get to learn a lot about your students: someone asks you something that makes you smile, others are hanging around the classroom.

Moreover it is a good moment to educate them: they do listen to what you tell them, and keep it (maybe), and take it into account (maybe).   One issue every teacher thinks of from time to time, or perhaps often because that teacher may have that kind of problem, above all if he or she is beginning their career as a teacher, is how to manage classroom behavior.  Today I’m trying to say something, apart from what I’ve written so far on quite many posts. 3680. How to Manage Classroom Behavior and Not to Die in the Attempt

  We teachers have to manage classroom behavior, okay. But more important is to have our dear students to work and learn and study and read and … okay too. We have to keep an eye on our students to avoid they would be disruptive.  However, as well we have to trust and confide in them. It’s a balance, you know. Unless we trust them, we cannot educate them well, or maybe at all.  If we trust those young people, well, you know, they will grow into better persons. We need to be accomplices to them. They play in our team, so as to say.  In principle we will believe what they tell us: everyone deserves the right to be believed. It seems better we could be sometime deceived than not to trust them. 2220. A friend of your students as well

I know a female teacher, another candidate for level C2 of English with me and others,  which is the same or equivalent to Proficiency within Cambridge examinations of English,  I was saying that that girl, a female teacher, accomplished to have tutorials and tutoring sessions and informal meetings with girls of her secondary education school or “instituto”,  after the class or between classes: they just came up toward this teacher and told her about their problems and issues in general, in a natural way, as I said.  She did good to those girls – young men just didn’t come up.  And she was faithful toward them. 3496. Do You Have Any Intuition as a Teacher?

The good teacher tries to plan his or her lessons. Also he or she might as well dedicate some brief daily time to think of just something brief that each class-group of theirs may be in need of. Because each class-group is in need of something to improve, and their teacher tries to find out what that is.  All that has to do with intuition. The teacher has some intuition about what each class-group really needs. And that teacher is capable of quickly finding about that necessity.  As well when the school year is over, that professional will write down some brief experiences of how the school year went.  He or she does so in order to next year build upon what worked the past year.  They will write about positive as well as negative points.
