1787. Some Suggestions for Kids' Summertime
Teens get terribly
bored in summer vacations. Or SOME teens, if you prefer.
They get together in a
bar or a disco, and they drink a glass after another. And they smoke, sorry,
joints. The surrounding music is at a high volume, so they communicate little –
anyway they have no important things to say to one another.
They got together
to have fun and now they’re sitting in the benches or that park, plunged in
their personal thoughts, under a summer sun.
Wait. Don’t get me wrong. My purpose
is positive and optimistic.
I met those other teens who spent their vacation
period in another way. They gave a hand at home; they made some money painting
neighbors’ swimming-pools; they made excursions; they played some video games
and Trivial Pursuit too; they read
books and e-books; they fixed one’s motorcycle; they talked together; they swam
in the sea; one of them read a book about the history of Rome; they met with
one another to have a drink; they met new girls from the summer neighborhood,
and chattered at the yard of one’s house; they made up a cookout; they visited
that house for the old, you know, kind of a hospital for old people…
Well, you
know, I have made up two groups of teenagers in order to make us ourselves
think about our sons and daughters now in summertime.
Also us teachers could
set enriching suggestions for vacations.
We English teachers could suggest to read
such or such unabridged novel, which is one step forward, because at school we
read simplified readers. / Photo from: surfing. impresora3printer com
